Rx6x Monitor Boosted Voltage
|
DESCRIPTION
Single cell lipos (1S) are a convenient power source because they are cheap, available in many sizes, and do not require balancing. Lipos are charged to 4.2v and used down to 3.0v. This is often not enough volts to power a motor. Voltage boosters can increase the voltage but these usually don't have low voltage protection. Lipos are damaged if their voltage falls too low.
Although single cell lipos are the most obvious power source, the voltage can be boosted from any number of cells. One reason may be to increase boost efficiency. For example, a 2S lipo is usually changed to 8.4v and considered flat at 6v. If still too low for desired motor speed, it may be boosted to 9v or 12v.
This feature allows the Rx to be powered with the boosted voltage and monitor the voltage of the lipo with a separate input. The Rx will cut power to the motor when the lipo voltage falls to the LVC threshold.
CONNECTIONS
Connect the boosted voltage to the +-/ pads on the receiver. Connect the + terminal of the lipo to the L pad on the receiver. The receiver will 'auto-detect' that the L pad is in use. See here for receivers that do not have an L pad.
ASSUMPTION
This feature and the wiring diagram assumes that the negative path is 'straight through' the voltage booster. Put another way, negative on the input of the voltage booster must be 'common' with negative of its output. This is usually easy to confirm by visual inspection/DVM.
